Background
Summary: A good chunk of Evelyn’s life is peppered throughout the country. Her father was a stay at home dad and her mother served in the army. After twenty-five years of service, of which Evelyn was alive for nineteen, the Marks made their permanent residence in California. Life for Evelyn, which had been relatively uneventful up until then, would take a turn for the amazing when a family friend (more on Mr. Marks’ side) visited and stumbled across her guitar playing.

Evelyn hadn’t made very many connections in her adolescent years. It was probably an adaptation to never staying in one place for long. Instead, she filled her time with solo activities, of which storybooks and music were tied for first place in favorites. It could, however, be argued that music isn’t meant to be solo only, and Evelyn would experience this firsthand when Ashley Derrickson invited her to join the band he was starting.

Surprisingly, it was Mr. Marks that was reluctant to support the endeavor. The music industry was demanding and merciless, and he wasn’t sure that Evelyn was strong enough to endure its hardships. He also didn’t like the idea of his only daughter joining a band that was overwhelmingly male. Mrs. Marks was more supportive, though she, too, had her reservations. It was a relief to both of them, then, when it became apparent that the boys of the band became the brothers Evelyn never had and that, together, Eranthis really did have something that the rest of the public wanted to hear.

Their fairytale band gig died with Rhys’ voice. In all her life, Evelyn had never gotten close to anyone, and now that she was faced with the realization that she felt quite close to her bandmates, she did the opposite of what was expected of her and shied away. She was angry at the driver of the car that hit Ashley and Rhys, she was angry at Ashley for being there when he was and she was, for a time (and she admits this as horrible of her), angry at Rhys, though there was no rational reason to back her anger up. The guilt of feeling that anger only caused her to withdraw even more, and eventually, she lost contact with everyone but Ashley. Even that, too, faded.

She turned to her instrument for distraction, and her parents encouraged her to continue music – not just for herself, but for her bandmates, too. (They were disappointed that Evelyn allowed everyone to go their separate ways, but she was an adult, it was her choice.) She managed to release one solo album, half instrumental, half sung, and then oops, it was February and was she in the world of the game Rhys used to play? It sure looked like it.

Internet Presence: Aside from a small blog she rarely updated except for guitar tracks and covers, absolutely zero.

Class & Zen History: Well, let’s see. Evelyn landed in Bumfuck Nowhere, Pakerion, and it was divine intervention that an adventurer found her, otherwise she would not have survived the night. All she knew of Zenderael (once the adventurer had puzzledly confirmed that this was, indeed, Zenderael the game) was ganking Rhys’ character mid-dungeon run and fucking over the entire party, and beginner level quests and areas. (Her attention span for the game didn’t last more than two weeks.) She asked the adventurer for advice and they, thinking this was a storyline for a person getting sucked into the world of Zenderael, played along. Eventually they decided that she would join the druid’s guild and get herself an elemental ally.

Unfortunately, once that adventurer logged off, they never spoke to each other again. After all, Evelyn couldn’t see whispers and she hadn’t asked for the adventurer’s name, either. Oops!

Surprise, surprise, Evelyn went for the big turtle. She named him Eranthis. They celebrated her birthday with bread, honey and freshly picked berries, and that is when she finally accepted that perhaps there was nothing for her to wake up from.

Personality
General Overview:
Quirky, bubbly and off in her world more often than not, Evelyn is a curious girl with an imagination three times her size. One could say it came out of a necessity to entertain herself when long-lasting friendships were not on her mind, but it wasn’t born of nothing: Evelyn is predisposed to getting lost in her own mind. She loves to give things stories, and ‘things’ here are varied: a scene, an item, an animal, a person. Hypothetically, she would be a good liar, but she’s not very good at it past simple deceit, like forgetting to wash the dishes when she purposefully didn’t, knowing that someone else would.

Yeah, she can be mischievous at times. Physically, she’s cute and she knows it, and is not above using her charm to her advantage. She can (could) still get away with buying children tickets at the movie theater and often pretended to be Rhys’ younger sister in public. Evelyn knew her boundaries though, and never pushed them. She’ll take responsibility for herself... most of the time.

Her adopted role as older sister, as well as her self-assigned act as Rhys’ younger sister are both appropriate to Evelyn. She takes the younger sister role very well, but she’s also what you might look for in an older sibling figure: sympathetic, kind, supportive – a willing ear in times of distress... As long as that distress doesn’t touch her personally.

Evelyn’s a go-getter, but she’s also a go-follower, easily led by talk. Relocating saved her from any long-term consequences, then Eranthis was her next safety net, and the only reason why she hasn’t fallen into some deep shit in Zenderael is because she’s so used to not forming deep connections that she doesn’t follow up on most people. She’s flighty without realizing it, and if something or someone makes her uncomfortable, well, temporary x on that location, let’s go somewhere else.

Flaws:
Evelyn is very much an escapist. She will draw away from what’s troubling her, either to her imagination or to books, to music, to something else. If left alone, the chances of her finally confronting the issue decrease dramatically. An outside push is usually required for her to face personal hardships.

She’s kind of self-centered in that she’ll steamroll conversation with what she wants to talk about or lead people to things she wants to do without meaning to. Unintentional inconsiderateness. All she needs is a gentle (but hard to mistake) reminder to slow down, or what about what so and so wants...?

Subtlety does not work on this girl. She is thick-headed. Not naive, mind, just not going to be picking up hints any time soon.

She does not respond well to criticism.

Quirks:
Evelyn cannot handle spicy anything. Black pepper is ok in tiny amounts, but curry? Mild please. In fact, she would rather have it sweet.

She misses her colorful collection of nail polish.

She likes to give people, animals and sometimes inanimate objects that she works with regularly names. Her guitar, for instance, is named Horace. When she’s having a bad playing day, she calls him a ho. (She doesn’t swear, though.)

Her manner of speech is airy, at times sing song, but that should not be mistaken for uncertainty. She’s very confident in what she says (usually. For most general conversations.)
